JDA's work was carried by its national staff in Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, and by the communities who invited JDA in. It was made possible by the churches, friends and volunteers who supported it from the United States and the United Kingdom, and by many partner organizations.
Partners over the years included:
- In Uzbekistan and early Afghanistan (from JDA's 2009 list of partners): Tearfund (UK), The Leprosy Mission (UK and India), the UN World Food Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Health Organization, Food for the Hungry International, Habitat for Humanity International, Lifewater International, Mercy Corps, Counterpart International, Winrock International, German Agro Action, the International Organization for Migration, the Aga Khan Development Network, ICARDA, IFDC, USAID, the UK Department for International Development, and the Canadian International Development Agency.
- In later years in Afghanistan: USAID, DAI, ACDI/VOCA and Purdue University.
- In Iraqi Kurdistan: ZOA and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.
- In the evacuation and resettlement: Help the Persecuted, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, and volunteers and sponsor groups in the Grand Valley.
